Welcome to the Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science offers BA(Honours) and BA (Programme ) courses. It was one of the earliest Honours Departments (having been started in 1978) in this college, as also one of the earliest to offer a Honours course in Political Science amongst the constituent Evening colleges of the University of Delhi. We have recently sought approval from the University of Delhi for starting the Post - Graduate course of MA (Political Science) in our College, which is awaited.
The Department caters to a large group of students, having some 271 BA(Hons.) students and 839 BA (Programme) students on rolls who are taught subject papers of Political Science. It draws the largest number of students amidst the different Honours courses today largely because of its faculty who are outstanding scholars and are drawn from a variety of specializations. All of them have publications in learned journals to their credit apart from having authored books. The faculty collectively boasts of having 30 published Books and about 70 Research Articles / Other Articles with ISBN/ISSN Nos. i.e. about 100 publications by the faculty of the Department (Pl. see details at the bottom of this page ). Some of them are involved in prestigious international and national level projects.
The students that we attract come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have a national character. 88% of our students come from outside of the NCT of Delhi. We are a big draw for students coming from various states of India apart from the North East. ( The cut off percentage for intake of students for our Honours course in the last Admission list in 2016 was a healthy 85% in the aggregate ). We have a very lively student community who are encouraged in immersing in extra curricular activities . The Political Science Society ( Samprabhu) is the cultural wing which organizes seminars, Talks apart from intra and inter collegiate level debates , quiz , elocution contest the year around. Students have started a periodical Wall Newsmagazine . They also have a presence in the cyberspace by running an informal blog called 'Political Science Society of PGDAVE College' on Facebook as a medium for exchange of views and information. Our students have participated at the University level and done well. Recently our students won a University level competition and were rewarded by being included in the University of Delhi's Gyanodaya Project under which they were sent on an educational tour to the North Eastern states.
Amongst the various dignitaries who have come to the Department to give talks / participate in seminars include Sh. Neelanjan Mukhopadhyay , Eminent Journalist and Producer. Prof T V K Subrahamanyum Ex Dean and head of Deptt. University of Delhi , Dr Subhash C. Kashyap , Constitution expert & former Secretary General of the Lok Sabha Secretariat , Prof. Yogendra Yadav ,former Member of UGC , Dr N R Mohanty , Editor of Hindustan Times Patna & Director Jagran Institute of Management Sciences , Prof. K. Suresh of Centre for Federal Studies, Prof Ummu Salma Bava of JNU, Prof. M P Singh of Univ. of Delhi, Prof.Ash Narain Roy , Director Institute of Social Sciences, N.Delhi.
Our results are amongst the very best and our students after passing out are found in a variety of vocations and calling. This tradition continues........
